I had a short conversation with a friend after she sent me a short video clip. It was about reaching out to others when you’re going through something and not being afraid to say so.
We both agreed that we have a hard time doing so and that for us, it’s that our traumas built us that way and it feels uncomfortable. We’ve incorrectly learned we are “too much” or we are supposed to swallow it down and ”tough it out”.
When did Jesus ever tell anyone to do that? He wouldn’t have died on the cross for us if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We are supposed to lay our burdens at His feet. But does THAT mean we have to be alone in it?
I mean, He said to pick up our cross and follow Him…I get that means leaving our old life, but we are also told to take up His yoke. Well, wouldn’t His yoke be found in our brothers and sisters in Christ?
We are the church. We are representatives of Christ. The physical Christ is not here, aren’t WE His yoke for others?
I feel that is proof ultimately of Gods love for us. We are told to love one another as Christ loves us and we accept His love in turn…it’s a circle.
I think that when we withhold ourselves from seeking that comfort in others, then we aren’t accepting the gift of love that Jesus gave to us in a calling on all of us.
I think looking at it like that instead of seeing yourself as a burden helps.
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2 ESV
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””
Matthew 11:29-30 ESV
